Syllabus
Chemistry is an advanced science class and will be treated as such. If you miss class for any reason, excused or unexcused, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed. This does not mean you should ask me during the next class period that you attend. This implies you need to find time outside of class to make up for this missed time. You may get notes and find out what you missed from a classmate or you may come and see me after school. I will not take time out of everybody else’s class to get the one student that was absent caught back up.
Since this is a chemistry class, there will be lab activities. There will be a lab write up associated with most of these labs that will need to be turned in to me for a grade. This means that if you are absent for a laboratory activity, you will need to make arrangements to come in after school to make that up. I will grant you one week after your absence to come in and make this up.
I am available every day after school, although I do like to sneak out of here as soon as possible on Fridays. I will make arrangements with you; however, if this is the only day you are able to stay after school. Remember, I am here to help you so do not hesitate to come to me with any questions you may have about this class or this school. My extension here at school is 6429 (532-0525) and my e-mail is mcdonald@wrightstown.k12.wi.us. My free periods are 4th and 5th. Please try to talk to me first to ensure that I will be there when you plan on coming to see me.
Grades
Your grade in this class will be calculated on a total points scale. Everything I grade will be counted and then your total points earned will be divided by the total points possible resulting in your percentage for the class. This percentage will then be broken down as follows:
A 93 ≤ A < 100
A- 90 ≤ A- < 93
B+ 87 ≤ B+ < 90
B 83 ≤ B < 87
B- 80 ≤ B- < 83
C+ 77 ≤ C+ < 80
C 73 ≤ C < 77
C- 70 ≤ C- < 73
D+ 67 ≤ D+ < 70
D 63 ≤ D < 67
D- 60 ≤ D- < 63
F 59 and below
Homework Policy
The homework policy for this class is simply to do the homework and turn it on time. There is no late work accepted. Even if you go home and find that you do not understand the problems, you are still expected to give each and every problem a try. If it is clear that you gave your best effort on an assignment, I will allow you to redo the assignment and turn it back in to me with the potential of earning full credit on that assignment. The requirements here are that it must be turned in to me no later than one day before the chapter test and you must either discuss or rework the assignment with me outside of class. If you cannot find time to rework the assignment with me than you must write out an explanation of what you did wrong and what you did to correct your mistakes.
