Wisconsin State-Wide Assessments
Forward Exam
Students in grades 3-8 take the Forward Exam online in English Language Arts (ELA) and
Mathematics, in Science in grades 4 and 8, and Social Studies in grades 4, 8, and 10.

PreACT Secure
The PreACT Secure is a summative assessment, aligned to The ACT with writing test and the ACT
College and Career Readiness Standards, that measures what students have learned in the areas of
English, Reading, Mathematics, and Science in grades 9 and 10.

The ACT® with writing
The ACT with writing is administered to students in grade 11 and consists of four multiple-choice
tests: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science, and a 40-minute essay test that measures
Writing skills. The ACT can be used for college enrollment, scholarships, and NCAA eligibility
requirements.

Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM)
DLM assesses the academic progress of students with significant cognitive disabilities. It is
administered online in grades 3-11 for English Language Arts and Mathematics, grades 4 and 8-11 for
Science, and grades 4, 8, and 10 for Social Studies.

ACCESS for ELLs®
ACCESS for ELLs is an online assessment system that measures the English language proficiency
(ELP) of English learners (ELs) in Grades K-12. This assessment allows educators, students, and
families to monitor students’ progress in acquiring academic English in the domains of Speaking,
Listening, Reading, and Writing.

District Assessments
ESGI
Students in 4 year old and 5 year old kindergarten take the ESGI assessment three times during the
school year. ESGI meets the Reading Readiness requirements through the state. It assesses
students developmental skills in the areas of reading and math. It covers the 4K foundational
standards as well as the Common Core State Standards for Kindergarten.

Star Early Literacy, Reading, and Math Assessment
The Star Assessments by Renaissance are computer-adaptive assessments that will provide
teachers with current, reliable, and valid data quickly so they can target instruction, monitor progress,
provide students with appropriate instructional materials, and intervene with at-risk students. This
system of assessments along with the use of Fastbridge Progressing Monitoring will be used not only
to inform data-based decisions but to support the instructional framework of Response to Intervention
(RtI). The data will allow for targeted intervention lesson ideas linked to diagnostic data and designed
to address student areas of growth in mathematics and reading. The Star Assessments also meet the
Reading Readiness requirements through the state, align with the Common Core State Standards as
well as align with the Wisconsin Forward Exam. Students in grades 1-8 take the Star Assessment in
both the areas of Reading and Math.
Star Assessments are taken three times per year during the following windows:
Fall -9/9/24- 10/4/24
Winter- 1/6/25 - 1/31/25
Spring- 4/28/25 - 5/23/25
AIMSweb Plus-Pearson
A single reading readiness screener will be administered to Wisconsin students enrolled in public school districts and independent charter schools in grades 4K through grade 3 beginning in the school year 2024-2025. After following the state of Wisconsin's procurement process, the Department of Administration selected Pearson to provide this screener. AIMSweb Plus is the Pearson product that will be used as the required fundamental reading skills and universal reading screener. AIMS Assessment is taken three times a year during the following windows:
Fall - 9/9/24- 10/4/24 - doesn’t count for ACT 20
Winter - 1/6/25 - 1/31/25
Spring - 4/28/25- 5/23/25
