Course Description
Students will demonstrate correct keyboarding technique using the one-touch method. They will spend 9 weeks improving and refining the skills learned in the 4th grade. They will also learn the symbol keys and numeric keys (top-row) as well as the numeric keys using the ten-key pad using the program MicroType4. Thereafter, the first 5-7 minutes of every session will involve drill work to keep students current on their newly acquired skill.
Areas of content will focus more on spelling and grammar rules. Students will then be introduced to the word processing program “Microsoft Word” where they will be taught how to save, print, set margins and tabs; learn to use word-wrap and insert graphics; as well as apply single, double, triple and quadruple spacing where appropriate.
Finally, using the program “Microsoft PowerPoint” students will generate a project about themselves. Time permitted, students will be introduced to Microsoft Publisher.
Time permitted they will also explore spreadsheets, databases, painting, and web navigation programs.
Software used: MicroType4, Office (WORD, EXCEL, ACCESS, PUBLISHER, POWERPOINT), and Internet Explorer.
