School Psychology

Mrs. Angie Sanderfoot-McNabb and Ms. Ellisen Poelzer serve as the School Psychologists for the district by providing services to students, staff and families in the areas of assessment, consultation, intervention, prevention, and research and planning

Assessment:

  • Provides assessment for student evaluation as required by local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Selects, administers, and interprets assessment instruments in a professionally appropriate manner. 
  • Conducts multi-method and multi-source assessment using a variety of methods (e.g. record review, observation, and interview) and sources (e.g. parents, teachers, and students).
  • Completes written reports within a reasonable time frame and in compliance with professional standards; including relevant information, assessment results, and educational implications or recommendations.  
  • Provide healthy and effective alternatives to teachers, parents, and administrators about problems in learning and behavior of children with disabilities and without disabilities.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to find effective solutions to learning and behavior problems. 
  • Work to strengthen working relationships between educators, parents, and community services and help others understand child development and how it affects learning and behavior. 

Consultation and Intervention:

  • Work directly and/or indirectly with students, teachers, and parents to help resolve problems in adjustment, behavior, and learning. 
  • Assist students, families, and school personnel deal with crisis, such as death, illness, or community trauma.
  • Provide psychological counseling to help resolve interpersonal or family problems that interfere with school performance.  

Prevention:

  • Promote equity, inclusion and appreciation of diversity within the school community.
  • Develop partnerships with parents and teacher to promote healthy school environments.
  • Collaborate with school staff and community agencies to provide services directed at improving psychological and physical health.   

Research and Planning:

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of academic programs and behavior management programs.
  • Use evidence-based research to develop and/or recommend effective interventions.
  • Identifying, implement, and evaluate programs and strategies to improve student learning and behavior.
